Freddie Mac announced a new loan program available July 29, 2018, to help a greater amount of home buyers qualify for down payment assistance.  HomeOne is available nationwide and so will be eligible in DC, MD, and VA.


The HomeOne loan program will be great for applicants who meet the following criteria:

a. Utilizing down payment assistance from a non-profit or government entity, so that they do not need to make their own down payment.

b. Income exceeds the Home Possible income limit AND is they are not buying in a census tract designated as low income.  If an applicant is under the Home Possible income limit (DC area is about $110k), OR is buying in a low income census tract, then Home Possible will provide a better interest rate and lower mortgage insurance costs.  Learn more about Home Possible here:

To utilize the program, at least one applicant must be a first time home buyer.  The minimum down payment is 3%, but that can be covered by government or non-profit assistance.  The program is available for one-unit properties only (no duplexes or multi-unit, but you can utilize the program to buy a condo or house).
